Project description
To improve product handling for a major player in the food industry, Sanders Machinebouw approached van Doren Engineers. The challenge was to fully automate and robotize a complete transportation system. Van Doren Engineers took care of the complete control of the production line, from hardware and software engineering, panel building and field assembly to programming the FANUC robot. For this project, robotization turned out to be the right solution.
The control system of the pick and place unit is, as an autonomous production unit, connected only to the supply line via an encoder. Van Doren Engineers recommended the newest generation S7-1500 Failsafe PLC, with a TP1500 touchscreen. Via a PROFINET / PROFIsafe bus system, all parts are linked to each other. For instance; the Festo pneumatic islands, the gripper modules, the servo drives for mold plate transportation and the FANUC robot controls for the pick-and-place handling. The supply modules are also controlled from the Master Failsafe PLC via Festo valve islands with remote I/O modules.
For safety, door lock switched with request functionality, electromagnetic locks and emergency stop push buttons were applied. The FANUC control system is also equipped with Dual Safety Control.
The combination of the automatic pneumatic-electrical switch module of Schunck and the FANUC robot control system, make this control system absolutely unique.
